Hello and welcome to Tejae’s Art. I’m Tejae Floyde. My passion is creating meaningful tejae working art, participating in the art community and teaching online classes. I’ve been an artist my whole life. My parents are all creative types. So I’ve experienced with several mediums, I usually come back to sculpting in clay, making jewelry and painting.

The short version of my life story: I grew up in a small town in Alabama. There are so many things I could tell you about my childhood, growing up in the south was amazing and its beautiful. There are some great people there. I have some wonderful memories, creating various types of art with my dad, exploring the woods with my big brother, playing hide and seek with my little sister but for me and my experiences, it also has a dark side on many fronts. I’ll save those stories for another time.

How did i get to Colorado? While still living at home my step mom received the Current catalog. You know the mail order catalog that has all the nic nacks, giftwrap and cards in it? In my naive mind at 13 or so, I thought it would be the most fantastic job to have a job making art for greeting cards. My best friend, Vickie, wrote poetry. We decided, we’d get jobs at Current. She’d write the poetry for the cards and I would make the art for the fronts. Mind you it never occurred to us that we couldn’t do this, living thousands of miles away never entered our minds. (kids, right?)

Well, I left home at 16.  After my high school graduation, I visited my mom who i hadn’t seen in years, in Colorado. How different Colorado Springs was from Alabama! I loved Colorado! The air so crisp and clean (no humidity), no bugs… I fell in love with this city and the military town with people from all over the world was so fascinating. I decided I wouldn’t be moving back to Alabama. I had found my home.

One of the first friends I made, was working at Current. (Yes, that Current.) I filled out an application and got hired in 88. I’ve worked my way through different departments and different business units. I’ve been in merchandising for several years (maybe 15 or so). The best part of my job? I develop products I come up with an idea for a design to be printed on paper and collaborate with graphic designers to get the art created. I approve it and it goes on to be printed on our products, right on the presses inside our company building. I love seeing ideas/concepts come to life! Moral of the story? Never underestimate the power of dream and visualizing where you want to be in life. I’m living proof it can and does happen.

I started my blog in 2006 to showcase my polymer heart work and share craft tips and techniques. I developed and taught my first Secrets of the Encased Hearts class online in 2008.

Over the years, I’ve offered several online classes while continuing my full time job as a catalog manager. (I’ve worked at my full time job for 27 years.) My online classes were offered at several online websites but I’ve pulled most of them down. It’s August 2015, and I’m in the process of building a special place online for my classes and community. I’ve spoken to many of you throughout the years and it will be great to have a special place for you to learn, share and create with me.

I’m married to Tim. We enjoy spending our time together, early morning walks, sushi and traveling…mostly to Mexico! We have a grown son, Tim Jr. who recently married his love, Stacey. We live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We attend church at Woodmen Valley Chapel.

I created a “published” page under My Art link, so you can see the books I’ve been published in. Until I get my new online classes set up, feel free to sign up for my newsletter at the bottom of the page to be kept up to date on the progress.
