The outside of this encased heart reminds me of a renaissance dress. If you could hold it in your hand, you would see all the detail. The black sides (inside the gold) is black polymer clay with a delicate gold, green and copper brocade. I used Donna Kato’s brocade technique. The face on the front has an irridescent “opal” background that gives it depth and shimmer. Since I start with the inside heart I never know what the outside heart will look like until I’m finished. I work intuitively, basically experimenting and trying new things until I’m at a stopping point. The inside heart is very textured and detailed too. Layered with color from colored clay, acrylic paint and alcohol inks. I had intended on putting something in the little niche but I haven’t decided on what yet.
